Create a magical fall evening entertaining outdoors with a roaring fire, plaid throw blanket, and beautiful DIY autumn leaf luminaries. Snuggle up as a family and enjoy the changing season with these outdoor fall decorations.
We had so much fun making these fall leaf luminaries to decorate for our fall home tour, that we even made some more for our magical little evening at home by the fire. Fall is one of our very favorite times of the year because the weather gets cool and we can enjoy the beautiful evenings outside together.
Often times, we dine outdoors, or make s'mores and just relax around the campfire together.
With a little bit of sparkle- lights, candles, luminaries, fire pit- any night can feel special.
Fall Leaf Luminaries for Outdoor Decorations
Outdoor fall decorations for everyday or for entertaining don't have to be elaborate or expensive. When they are thoughtful and unique, they are magical.
We made these fall leaf luminaries with a slight modification. This time we made them in a cube instead of a cylinder shape. It was actually really easy and these lay flat for storage.
The best tip for creating luminaries with your collected fall leaves it to make sure that you use ones that are relatively fresh and not crunchy at all. I also like to use various colors and tree varieties. But, really any color/combination of colors will create a beautiful effect.
These luminaries are great for so many things, but here are just a few ideas to get you started:
- mantel decor
- fall decorations in any room!
- lining the walkway while entertaining
- weddings
- centerpiece for a tablescape
- around a cozy campfire
- give as a gift
Fall Campfire in the Backyard
We love our spring and fall campfires! We rarely have them in the dead of summer because it is too hot. But, when the weather begins to cool off, we are right back outside for our evening campfires.
It is something fun for us to do to reconnect and have peaceful conversations as a family.
Creating magical fall moments doesn't have to be complicated or hard. It can be as simple as a campfire.
Cozy Throw Blankets
I always have a stack of cozy throw blankets on hand that are easy to throw in the washing machine when needed. They are absolutely necessary for snuggling around the campfire.
Most of ours have been picked up on sale or clearance after the season, but any old washable blankets work perfectly. Thrifting for these is another great option.
Outdoor Lights and Candles
Patio lights, twinkle lights (Christmas lights), candles, LED candles, lanterns, and campfires all help to create that magical ambiance.
These solar patio lights are my favorite. I have been using them for a couple years now and they are so great. They have a good warm color, and come on automatically.
These candles are my favorite. And these LED candles are my favorite.
How to Entertain for Fall at Home

Food is another great way to create an inviting atmosphere for entertaining. Here are some of our favorite comfort foods for feeding a crowd:

- Pumpkin Snack Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting
- Homemade Hot Chocolate
- Vanilla Bean White Hot Chocolate
I hope you find many magical moments this fall!
