This delicious strawberry banana smoothie with almond butter, almond milk, and a handful of spinach is a filling and flavorful way to start the morning. It almost tastes like a milkshake, but much healthier!

Our family loves smoothies! My kids actually ask for them because they love them so much! We make many variations of smoothies, but they usually seem to have strawberries and bananas in them. This combination here is our favorite to date. We love all of the flavors and the texture of this one. The almond butter and almond milk make it taste almost like a milkshake!
This year, school will look a little different for us. This strawberry banana smoothie with almond butter recipe is on the top of my list of filling ways to start our day. These smoothies are a great way to start the day for breakfast, or perfect as an afternoon snack. They are loaded with only good, plant-based things and are both filling and satisfying.
How to Make a Strawberry Banana Smoothie
Making smoothies is one of our favorite ways to eat breakfast because they are so easy!
Here are a few of my best tips:
- Use Frozen Strawberries. Fresh ones can be used, but you won't get that cold, milkshake-like taste.
- Add a banana for flavor and creaminess. You can freeze this as well if you want your smoothie to be extra cold and thick.
- Blend until smooth and then blend a little more. This ensures that all of the chunks become nice and smooth.
- Serve and drink immediately
- Rinse out your blender right away for the easiest cleanup
Strawberry Banana Smoothie Ingredients
As with most recipes, the quality of ingredients plays a huge role in the resulting taste of the smoothies! It is always best to use the best ingredients you can find.
I love using the O Organics® and Open Nature® products that are available in my area exclusively at Albertsons stores. They have a wonderful consistent quality and value that I am always happy with because they are made from only good things.
You can also find them exclusively at the Albertsons Companies family of stores, including ACME Markets, Jewel-Osco, Vons, Pavilions, Randalls, Tom Thumb, Shaw’s, Star Market, United Supermarkets and Carrs/Safeway. Visit albertsons.com to find a store near you and to discover meal prep tips and other recipe ideas.
I grew up here in Idaho where Albertsons was founded and have always been impressed by the wonderful things they have done for our community. I love popping into my local store where they know me (especially at the floral counter). All I have to do is ask, and they help me to find the perfect ingredients for anything I am working on. I also highly recommend their delivery and Drive Up & Go™ services; I use them all the time and they are a life saver.
Other Smoothie Variations
The ingredients I use in my strawberry banana smoothie are pretty simple, but can be altered or added to for personal preference. This recipe calls for frozen strawberries, bananas, Open Nature creamy almond butter, O Organics almond milk, O Organics Icelandic Style Yogurt, and a handful of spinach for good measure. The honey is optional for added sweetness, but always taste the smoothie first to make sure it needs it.
Some other things you could add to this smoothie that would be delicious include:
- more spinach (I always add extra spinach)
- frozen mixed berries in place of the strawberries
- avocado
- chia seeds
- hemp seeds
- pineapple or pineapple juice
- frozen mango in place of part of the strawberries
- blueberries
- you can even add a drizzle of honey for extra sweetness if you prefer
This recipe makes one large strawberry banana smoothie, so feel free to double or triple depending on your blender capacity. It fills a generous pint jar. I usually split one recipe between two of my little kids or one full recipe per adult.
You will really love this smoothie recipe!
