I shared my office/studio makeover a few weeks ago, and I wanted to share some more of the little makeovers in the space, starting with this CD cabinet turned vintage apothecary inspired cabinet.
I bought this new at DownEast and it is a "CD Cabinet." I was going to use it as a dresser in my boys' room because I loved how it would have plenty of drawers for all of their socks, t-shirts, etc., but it ended up being a little too big for the space.
Here is what it looked like before:
I was trying to decide what to do with it when I started working on my office makeover, and realized it fit perfectly right here on this wall. I liked the red for my boys' room, but the color didn't work here in my office space so I decided to paint it.
I painted it a couple different shades of white and light gray and nothing felt right. This wall is a huge, 12 feet tall and it felt like it needed something a little darker to anchor the space. I decided to use Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Graphite and I love the way it turned out. I haven't sealed it with wax or anything yet. I kind of liked the way the plain paint looked and it seemed to be holding up really well. The only issue I have had with it is when I set a drink on top, it leaves a ring. I just wiped it down with a damp cloth and it went away and left the white residue, which I kind of liked, so I just rubbed down the whole piece.
I added little brass label holders so I can label each of the drawers- glue gun, ribbon, etc. I have the other whole wall of boxes for storage as well. I will share pictures when I get everything organized and labeled. My goal was to get everything organized to save myself time and frustration when working on projects. I am trying to create a really good system.
So far, we love it. It is the first thing your eye is drawn to when you walk into our home, so it makes for a really nice focal point. Now I just need to get to organizing and labeling...
