Christmas is such a fun time around our home. It seems that every single room gets a little touch of holiday cheer. I especially love the colors, the music, the warmth, the twinkle lights, and the many friends and family members that pop in for a visit. We love to invite people into our home to chat, sip cocoa, laugh and enjoy the warmth of the season. It seems like the holidays can be a stressful time while we try to make things perfect for our loved ones, but the memories, traditions, and even fun little visits are what make it such a truly special and memorable time of the year.
When I headed to IKEA a few weeks ago, I had the goal to make our home a little more functional for the upcoming Christmas season. I found myself wanting to have a bit more seating for our family and friends, so I made a plan to switch out a few of our furniture pieces for ones that were still beautiful, but that had a good price point and also had the extra function that we needed.
I picked out these HENRIKSDAL chairs for our office because they are lighter than the chairs we had in here previously and easy for even the kids to move into other rooms in our home for extra seating. I also loved the simple, classic style of their lines in this space.
We can fit all 4 of them in our family room when we need to, and it makes all of the difference in the world to be able to comfortably fit that many more people.
One of my favorite little Christmas survival tips is to have extra goodies on hand and ready for all of those unexpected visitors this time of the year- just a little treat from our family to theirs. I had my sweet girl help me put together these cute little Christmas jars and it couldn't have been easier. We simply filled up these jars with treats and tied a ribbon on each. I have a little Christmas ribbon stash, and it is always so fun to pull them out and use them. The jars are air-tight so we can make these up ahead of time and the treats won't dry out or harden before we give them out. It takes a lot of the stress out of the season to do these types of things ahead of time.
We put our jars in a crate and set it next to the front door so they would be readily available.
One of the other things that I had been wanting to do in our family room since we moved the sectional in here from my she shed, was to change out the coffee table for an ottoman. I found this FARLOV ottoman from IKEA that was the perfect size, color, plushness, etc. It also adds so much more function in the form of storage and extra seating. It is currently holding our stash of Christmas books that we snuggle together and read each night in front of the fireplace.
When we have holiday guests pop in, we are so much more able to accommodate everyone comfortably now with the extra slipcovered office chairs and the new ottoman, than we were before. Last year, we could only fit 4 people in our family room on the old couches and now we can comfortably fit 7 to 11 in here, depending on how many of the chairs we pull in. I even love to have a basket of extra blankets on hand for anyone who might have a chill during our cold Idaho winter.
The Christmas season always seems to end so quickly, as all truly special things do. Before we know it, it will be January and we will have our new sweet baby in here with us. It will be so nice to accommodate the extra people that will come to meet her then too.
