Paper Christmas ornaments are easy to make with these free printable templates. Their beautiful, vintage look adds whimsy to a Christmas tree and are very budget friendly.
I am still adding some finishing touches to my Christmas tree but wanted to share this project I am working on- these DIY paper ornaments.

Supplies
- paper of choice
- scissors
- these printable templates
- hot glue gun, double sided tape or glue stick
- ribbon or twine
The paper I used was already on this antique paper dispenser when I purchased it at a local antique store but you could use any thinner paper including wrapping paper or printer paper. Thicker paper or card stock is a little harder to use.
Sharper scissors will give you a straighter cut.
I uses a hot glue gun for these. I feel like it makes the project go so much more quickly.
How to Make Paper Ornaments
These paper Christmas tree ornaments are very easy to make, especially with the templates. Just follow these simple steps:
- Cut paper into strips. For these, I used strips that were 5" to 6" wide and about 15" long. You can adjust this depending on the size of ornaments you would like to make.
- Accordion fold the full length of the paper.
- Fold the accordion in half and glue.
- Glue the other ends together to form the full circle.
- Glue any of the accordions that are laying open.
- Glue a string or ribbon to the top of the ornament for hanging.
Paper Ornaments Tips
Here are a few tips to help make beautiful paper ornaments this Christmas:
- Use thinner paper
- use sharp scissors
- use an easy adhesive like hot glue
- enlarge or shrink the template size to adjust for the size of ornaments you wish to make
- glitter the edges for a fun twist
- use patterned wrapping paper to add color to your tree
Other Uses for Paper Ornaments
These paper ornaments are very versatile for Christmas decor. Here are some of the other ways I have used them:
- create a garland for a holiday mantel
- clump together to create a swag for a wreath
- create a garland to hang across a window
- attach to the top of a Christmas gift instead of a bow
- When I was in college, someone brought me a sweet paper snowflake just by itself and it was the best little gift that I just loved.
This is my tree so far, but I am still tweaking and adding a few things. I have moved a little more slowly on it this year. I'm just enjoying the process. It looks like I even missed adding the vintage sheet music to the top frame on the tree.
I love the vintage feel of paper ornaments.
