I have tried a bunch of recipes for cake mix cookies, and this is, by far, my favorite! I have tweaked my technique here and there. This is my go-to when I need cookies in a hurry and I always keep extra boxes of cake mix on hand. They are so quick and easy that they are perfect in a pinch! My little Ella loves to help make these too.
Cake Mix Cookies
Prep Time 5 minutes
Cook Time 15 minutes
Total Time 20 minutes
Ingredients
- 1 boxed cake mix
- 1/3 cup melted butter
- 2 eggs
Instructions
-
Mix ingredients together in a bowl using a rubber spatula until combined. Roll into 1″ balls and drop onto a greased cookie sheet. Some kinds of cake mixes are a little harder to roll into balls, so just do the best you can. Sometimes I drop them from the spoon onto the cookie sheet and then form them if they are too hard to roll.
-
Bake at 350 degrees for approx 7 minutes
Recipe Notes
NOTE: Oven times may vary… the best way to know if your cookies are done is if the bottom is slightly golden and the top is soft but no longer wet.
You can add many different toppings. I poke mine into the top of my cookie balls before I bake them instead of mixing them into the batter. Here is a list of some toppings I have used:
chocolate chips
white chocolate chips
cut up candy bars
Andes mints
nuts
sprinkles
Or you can add frosting once your cookies have cooked and cooled.
You really can come up with so many delicious combinations! If you come up with any winners, I hope you will be sure to share it here in the comments for the rest of us 🙂

Awesome! I just made a batch with Betty Crocker Party Rainbow Chip cake mix and they turned out so great! I didn't use all the butter that it called for, and just mixed it in by the tablespoon until it was a good consistency. I also had to cook them for a lot longer than 7 minutes. Just did 3 minute intervals after the initial 7 until they were golden brown on the bottom. Made about 2 dozen cookies! Thanks!

about ready to pull out German Choc with coconut and walnuts. Yummy.

This looked promising and followed the directions precisely and had s sticky gooey mess that was impossible to form into balls. Did anyone else have this problem? I think next time, I'll bake in a pan.

The dough is much softer than traditional cookie dough. Just drop your cookies on the pan and cook them, and they will be perfect!

My grandma makes these. Her recipe is a little different but still good. I have used chocolate cake mix and rolled in powdered sugar, spice cake mix and rolled in cinnamon/sugar mix, yellow cake mix rolled in cinnamon/sugar mix and white cake mix rolled in colored sugars for holidays or seasons.

I'm shocked that you made that many different kinds of cookies all at once! What a pretty picture! Pinning!

Sam and Natalie! I can't believe I forgot to add the temp! Thanks for reminding me... I updated the post. 350 degrees 🙂

What temperature do you bake them at (as Sam asked) and how many does this make (approximately)? Thanks! 🙂

At what temperature do you bake them?

I just found your web site and I LOVE it! Your ideas make me happy. I found you after doing a Google search looking for a way to care for burlap. My burlap is in the washing machine right now with half the amount of detergent and a splash of bleach. I'm planning on making a pillow with it for my niece and wanted it to be softer and smell better. I recently purchased a Brother SE-400 sewing/embroidery machine and I'm eager to complete this first project. Thanks so much for your help with it!
