I am finally sharing my boys' room today. I have had it finished for a while now, so it is about time! My boys love their new room and so do I. It has been undecorated for the entire decade we have lived here and I am so glad to finally have it done! I think my favorite part of the space is the DIY barn door window treatment, but I also love the navy blue, gray, and ticking theme.
I feel like I didn't photograph this room very well since the colors seem a little off. I will have to get better pictures when I find artwork for the room. All of the navy blues are a little more muted in real life and match a lot more closely.
For this room, I wanted to do something unique for the window treatment- maybe something a little more masculine than traditional curtains. The afternoon sun in here is pretty bright during nap time, so I also wanted something that would block out the sun. I thought it would be fun to do a barn door window treatment and I love how it turned out. I built the barn doors out of birch plywood and trimmed them out with basic MDF. I painted them in SW Dover White. The walls are a custom mix that I will share in a post later with my house paint colors. I love, love, love the way they look. They actually make the room feel bigger.

I was lucky enough to snag these vintage Jenny Lind beds from my mom. She bought them at a yard sale when I was little and my brothers used them while we were growing up. I love my brothers and it is so fun to have these beds for my boys now.
The light fixture is from Amazon (HERE). The dresser is a $60 thrifted antique that is very sturdy. I painted it in MMS Milk Paint in Trophy (you can buy it HERE). I wanted all of the chippy goodness to contrast with the clean paint on the shutters so I didn't use the bonding agent and just ever-so-lightly sanded the piece before painting. I stole the old toolbox and fan from my mom as well. My little man collects rocks everywhere he goes and wanted these two special ones to stay right here. Melts my heart.
The gray and navy braided pillows, the rug, and the navy quilts came from Homegoods. The ticking duvets (that I LOVE!) are from Restoration Hardware and the cream sheets and gray blankets are from Target. The gray stripe grain sack pillows are from Pottery Barn.
Nothing in this room can really be destroyed so that makes it perfect for my two rambunctious little guys. It is easy and comfortable for them above anything. I need to still find some artwork for above both of the beds, and I have a couple of ideas, but I am still thinking about it. I will keep you posted!

Do you know the brand of the navy quilts from Homegoods? Also, do you still love the duvet covers from RH? I’m debating on ordering.

They don't have a brand on them, and I do love the duvets from RH. I go back and forth with having them on the boys beds and taking them off. My boys don't exactly keep them nice looking all the time and the quilt is just easier sometimes.

What color does the paint look on that dresser? Is it more of a gray or blue? Love the room!
Kristen Whitby
It is a gray. Thank you!
Lisa
What color are the walls?
Kristen Whitby
It is a custom color, very close to revere pewter.

I can't believe no one has commented on this post! I love what you did with the room and I am inspired to try the barn door window treatment! What a cool idea! I'm also totally jelly of those adorable and meaningful bed frames!
