I needed some little garden markers so I knew what was growing and where. When I planted my garden, I just stuck the little plastic markers that came with the plants into the ground to mark each one. I had the intent to make nicer ones at some point but it took me a couple of weeks. Well, now there are two missing, and I don't remember what kind of tomatoes they were. Oops. Sometimes surprises are fun, right!?
While I was at Lowes, I asked for a handful of paint stirrers and they were so nice to give them to me.
I cut each paint stirrer in half with my saw, grabbed my Sharpie from the drawer, and wrote all of my plant names on them.
Then I just stuck them in the ground next to the plants. Can't beat free {if you have a Sharpie on hand}. And they are kind of cute too.
They are holding up really well and it is nice to see in bigger letters what I have growing.
I am getting so excited for some big, yummy, fresh veggies!
If you follow me on Instagram {here}, you probably giggled at my belly that kept getting in the way while I was taking my pictures of the markers. And speaking of the belly, we get to find out this week what we are having! Any guesses?
I hope you have a wonderful day!

Would any of you crafters like to do a class on your ideas...As a Home Depot associate I've ran this idea by my management. Why not let you show us what your doing, instead of us always directing the classes..

Your plant markers look great, love the "free" part too - very clever! I have this linked to my DIY garden markers post too today, for inspiration!

Thanks to all your inspiration on the blog, I decided to paint my planters that are on the garden shed. Then I went further and, like you, added sticks to each planter indicating what was growing. I saw them at the dollar store and they were shaped like a daisy the other a tulip. So I painted them pink and white to match the planter. I printed what veggie it was both in English ie peas and French pois. This way when the neighbor kids look (they all just finished kindergarden) they sound out the word and learn an English word to boot (they are no English schools around only French!) The parents love the idea but I thought it was a good way to teach little kids to read. The younger ones, read the letters!! P-E-A-S!!!TFS and all your inspirations!

What a great idea! I too need some markers in my garden. I'm totally going to do this. however, I sure wish my handwriting was as pretty as yours.

Those really are cute! I did a project with a bunch of the 5 gallon stir sticks from Lowes (which they were happy to give me, I might add) and a reader scolded me for stealing and said they'd never give them away again! Glad to see they're still giving them away and that I didn't destroy paint stick projects for all bloggers everywhere 😉

Good idea. I can't see you with anything but another precious little girl! Whichever it is, just wishing for a healthy one!
