I was admiring the hydrangeas in my garden today. I can't believe it is past the middle of October and we are still having warm weather and flowers! Definitely not normal for Idaho. It got me thinking about a post I did last year for Jennifer Rizzo that I forgot to post here on my blog for you to see! It's funny that I look at these pictures now and I can tell a difference in the ones I take now... that's a good thing, right!? I have a sister and brother-in-law that are amazing professional photographers and I just hope to be half as talented as they are someday. Anyhow, I posted this on Jen's blog last year and I thought I would share it with you before I forget about it completely.
Every year I love to raid my sister-in-law's gorgeous hydrangea bushes. She has hydrangeas the size of my head and they are always the most beautiful colors. Last year, I was trying to put Ella's room together before I had the baby. I made up a little arrangement of these hydrangeas since they dry so beautifully.
I had this little cream vintage basket on hand, and I just stripped the leaves off of the live hydrangeas and piled them in the basket. That's it. They dry just like that. The trick is to pick them when they are really ripe... almost ready to die. They are halfway dried by then and ready.
At the time, I had purchased this antique raw pine cabinet for Ella's room. I put the arrangement up on top, along with the vintage rocking horse that I stole from my mom and a little pillow I made from vintage linens and notions {here}.
I have since moved the cabinet to our living room. With the renovation, we played a little bit of musical furniture in our home.
I made this little dress for my girl when she was still in my tummy. I made a bunch of little dresses for her, but this one was my favorite. I just made a plain linen dress and hand stitched a vintage doily onto the front of it. The buttons on the back were creamy white linen covered buttons to coordinate with the doily.
I forgot how much I liked it in here. Well... it may end up right back there. Who knows! I am still working on changing Ella's room around so stay tuned!
