I joined in on the virtual DIH workshop with The Home Depot this month! The project for the DIH workshop is this fun rustic pumpkin stand and I had a lot of fun putting it together. It is such a versatile piece to DIY for your Autumn decor and a bunch of us showed how to use it in different areas of the home: kitchen, dining room, living room, guest room, and outdoors. From plates to candy, and houseplants to mini pumpkins, this cute little pumpkin stand can be used in a variety of ways all through the season.
You would think something this size would be hard to build, but it was actually relatively simple. The nice part is that you make it using just 2 cedar fence pickets and a 1x2, so it is a pretty inexpensive project. Once all of the cuts were made, it really was a breeze to put together.
Have you ever participated in a DIH workshop through The Home Depot? You can find more information on joining in on this one HERE. Basically, The Home Depot offers Workshops at all of their locations for do-it-yourselfers of all ages and experience levels. There are three types of Workshops offered – Do-It-Yourself (DIY), Do-It-Herself (DIH) and Kids. Customers can learn how to build décor projects, how to make easy home repairs and how to operate tools through demonstrations and step-by-step instructions. They have all kinds of things! The Home Depot’s Workshops are designed to provide a mix of associate-led instruction, demonstration, and some hands-on learning. Materials can be purchased to make your own project. For more information, contact your local Home Depot store or visit HERE to learn more.
My cedar pickets already had a very orange-ish color to them, so I could have left it plain and it would have been really cute too. I decided to tone it down a little bit since I was putting it in the kitchen, and opted to whitewash the whole thing with a creamy white paint that I had on hand mixed with water. I covered it in two coats and let it dry thoroughly before use. I love that it still has a subtle orange tint to it. I stuffed the box with my favorite clementine sparkling juice drinks (because they were a pretty Fall color), plates, and a cute napkin. I think it would be really fun to use it for silverware, napkins, etc. It is perfect in the kitchen to use for anything that is nice to have out and ready. I made up another one of my Fall centerpieces (tutorial HERE), and used my chalkboard as a menu board. Pretty fun and versatile!
Here are a few more of my friends' kitchen DIH pumpkin stands. I love how they customized theirs! They are so creative!

I was so inspired by this project so signed up for the workshop at my local Home Depot. I'll be honest and say I didn't really read all the fine print, but I thought that I would be building this project at the workshop. The workshop was just someone showing you how to assemble the pieces that were already cut.
I would have been very willing to pay for materials to be able to make this project at the store since I don't have all the tools to make it at home.
I realize it is my fault for not reading all the details, but the workshops for the kids is hands on where they actually build the project, so I had no reason not to assume it would be the same. There were about 10 in attendance and we were all surprised we would not be building the project. Too bad...

Great idea, Kristen! I love the towel/napkin that you have tucked in there!
