"You are my Sunshine, my only sunshine. You make me happy when skies are grey. You'll never know, dear, how much I love you. Please don't take my sunshine away."
A very sweet friend of mine told me this week how much the song, "You Are My Sunshine," means to her and it got me thinking about how much I love it as well.
My mom taught me the song when I was a little girl and I would sing it all the time.
I loved it when she would sing it to me.
My voice would get really, really high at the part, "you never know, dear."
Now I sing it to my sweetie pie, Ella. And I hope some day she will sing it to her little sweetie pie.
Happy Mother's Day to all of the wonderful women who uplift and inspire the people in their lives. To me, being a mother is more than just being blessed with children. It is loving, caring, sacrificing, uplifting, and nurturing. Mothering is a selfless attitude, an inner strength, a noble calling, and I am so thankful for the mothers in my life.

I sang that song to all of my kiddos and now to grands and great grands. A few months ago we were all singing it after supper one evening. Ella (4) said "Grandmommie, you should write that on your blackboard", so in my kitchen is an oval blackboard that says "you are my sunshine" with lots of little girl xx's and oo's surrounding it! What could be sweeter?? ;^)
