Warm Cheddar Cheese Dip

  • 2 T unsalted butter
  • 2 T white, all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 10 oz. sharp cheddar cheese, grated It turns out better if you shred it yourself (do not use pre-shredded cheese)
  • pinch kosher salt to taste
  • diced spring onion garnish


  1. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium high heat. Add flour and stir with a whisk. 

  2. Dump milk into pan and continue to cook and whisk until mixture thickens. 

  3. Dump in shredded cheese and mix until all cheese is melted and incorporated. Add a pinch of salt to taste.

  4. Serve warm with sliced baguettes, crackers, or pretzel bread bites.
