Another recipe from my Mom! These marble squares are easy, delicious and even pretty to look at. Growing up I would love to help my Mom make these and my kids seem to have that same excitement that I did (and still do!) when we make them together, too. Swirling the sweetened cream cheese into the chocolate cake is their favorite part. And then of course dumping a bunch of chocolate chips on top. Try them out, I'm pretty sure you will love them as much as we do!

Marble Squares
Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 35 minutes
Total Time 45 minutes
Ingredients
- 1- 8 oz package cream cheese softened
- 2 1/3 c sugar divided
- 3 eggs divided
- 3/4 c water
- 1/2 c butter
- 1 1/2 oz unsweetened chocolate
- 2 c flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 c sour cream
- 1 c chocolate chips
Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 375. Grease and flour a 15x10in jelly roll pan. Set aside.
-
In a medium bowl; combine softened cream cheese and 1/3 c sugar, mixing well until blended. Beat in 1 egg. Set aside.
-
In a small saucepan combine the butter, water and unsweetened chocolate. Bring to a boil then remove from heat.
-
In a large bowl combine the flour, remaining 2 c sugar, baking soda and salt. Pour in the chocolate mixture and beat on low until incorporated. Mix in the sour cream and remaining eggs. Once combined pour into greased and floured jelly roll pan.
-
Spoon cream cheese mixture over the chocolate batter. Cut through batter with a butter knife several times for a marble effect. I usually go up vertically and again across horizontally. Then sprinkle with chocolate chips.
-
Bake for 25 minutes (check at 20 min). Or until a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean.
-
Cool and cut in to squares. Store in an airtight container.
Cheryle
This is the exact recipe that was on the Philadelphia cream cheese box many years ago. I loved the recipe and baked it many times but accidentally threw it out so have been searching the internet for it. All I could find were recipes made with brownie mixes but the one I remembered had 1-1/2 ounces of unsweetened chocolate and the sour cream. I am so thankful to have found it once again. It will go back into my Christmas cookie list once again. Thank you!
