Hello!
I had a few people ask me for a post answering a few questions about these vintage inspired botanical invitations for Ella's birthday party {posted here} as well as a tutorial on how I printed them. You are all so sweet to ask!
Lets talk about the printing part, first, and then I will answer a few other questions. I printed these invitations onto a linen-like fabric and then adhered them to cardstock. This both gave them a great linen texture, as well as the stability of cardstock.
First, I designed my card so that there would be two per page.
Next, I traced an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper several times onto a roll of Heat n' Bond
Then, I cut out each of them, so I had lots of 8 1/2 x 11 sized Heat n' Bond sheets.
After that, I just ironed all of the sheets onto my fabric.
Once I was finished ironing, I cut out each sheet.
At this point, I just ran them through my printer like regular sheets of paper. [Hint: First, I ran a test sheet through my printer {of regular paper} to see how the printer printed so I would know which way to load the paper {face up or down}].
{I smudged out the address in these pictures, in case you were wondering why it looked funny}

Once I was finished printing, I cut them out using a regular old paper cutter. It actually worked really well as long as I pushed hard enough!
After I had all of my cards cut out, I peeled off the paper backing and ironed them onto cardstock for a little extra stability.
Then, I just cut them out again.
And I was finished!
I printed a few onto regular cardstock as well. You can see the difference between the two in the picture below.
To answer a few questions, the fonts I used here are MTF Under Your Skin {get it here for free!} and Abraham Lincoln {also get it here for free!}. Those were the only two I used, I just adjusted the sizes, colors, spacing, etc. on each of the words.
The vintage hydrangea botanical graphic I used is from the graphics fairy-- LOVE her {free here}.
The nitty gritty: I actually used powerpoint to create my card, I am almost embarassed to say. I am just not that good at photoshop at all, so I stuck with what I knew. 🙂 I changed the size of my powerpoint slide to be 5x7 {the size I wanted my card}, played around with everything until it looked right, saved my document as a picture {PNG}. Then I just opened up a new Powerpoint slide and set the dimension to 8 1/2 tall x 11 wide, added 2 new "pictures" {the card I saved as a PNG} side by side, and printed them out.
I am not sure what kind of fabric I used since it was just one I had in my stash. It was linen-like, but with a looser weave than real linen.
Our printer is an inkjet printer we bought at Costco a few months ago. I used to do this on our old inkjet, as well as every inkjet I have had for the last ten years... so I don't think it is printer specific. Just be nice to her and feed the paper through one at a time ; ).
Did I miss anything?
Thanks for reading!!

Don't be embarrassed! Personally, I think it's better that you used a system that is more widely used by people, I for one, don't have the $$ to spend on Photoshop. Love the invites, I wish I had a sweet little girl to do these for!
