I am sharing a fun repurposing DIY project for the holidays sponsored by Discount Tire!
I am excited to share this post with you today for 2 reasons. First, it will give you a little glimpse into my childhood home which my 5 siblings and I, my parents, grandparents, great uncle and more each helped to build with our own hands. Second, it is another fun repurposing challenge. You may remember the fun DIY teal tire swing I made HERE (which my kids play on ALL of the time). Well, this time I was challenged by discount tire to repurpose a tire for the holidays!
I decided that I wanted to make a twine or rope wrapped tire stand for my mom's Christmas tree. She has a cute tree on her hearth and I thought it would be a really fun setting for this rustic looking stand. This tire tree stand is pretty simple and inexpensive to make, and if you would like to make one of your own, you will need the following supplies:
- thick jute rope (this is thicker than regular twine, but you could use other rope or twine)
- glue gun and glue sticks
- a spent tire- a great idea to keep in mind as something to do with one of your old tires when it’s time to replace them
I started by glueing and wrapping the rope all the way around the perimeter of the tire. This first row was the bottom of the stand.
I just kept going until I hit about the halfway mark and then I flipped the tire over and continued wrapping and glueing. In hindsight, a more bald tire would have made this project a little bit easier, but I made it work :).
I continued wrapping and glueing until the rope reached the inside rim of the top of the tire.
I cut my rope when I reached the rim and then it was finished! Easy right?
I think it is a fun way to add a really sturdy and rustic base to the tree. We just slipped the tree stand in and under the tire, and my mom decorated with all of her cute primitive ornaments and berries. My mom makes these cute blanket ladders and you can find her on Instagram HERE.
I took these pictures when it was really dark and stormy and you can see just how pretty the glow of the tree is against the jute base. Warm, happy Christmas.

What a great looking tree stand! I love your mom's tree and the blanket ladder. How interesting that you and your family built the house. I think that is wonderful. Started following your mom on Instagram and will be looking to buy a blanket ladder as soon as Christmas is past! BTW, you look just like her! Both lovely ladies!
