I think antique chandeliers are so beautiful. I absolutely love the ones that are the perfectly aged brass dripping with beautiful crystals. I bought this chandy off of Craigslist and the brass had already been painted over with a black paint... which was accented by colorful beads and zebra striped shades... not exactly my style. I knew from the pictures that it was an antique, and I loved all of the crystals so I wanted to buy her and give her a little makeover!
Here are the before and after pictures:
I originally bought it for Ella's room, and it still might end up in there, but I couldn't resist adding a little bling to my She Shed for now. Those beams were just begging for a little bit of sparkle!
To makeover the chandelier, I began by carefully removing all of the crystals and zebra beaded shades. I painted the chandy with 2 coats of spray primer and let it dry completely. Then, I used a dry brush to paint the entire chandelier with some creamy white chalk paint that I had on hand. I made sure to do this very haphazardly since I didn't want it to look too perfect and new. Once it was dry, I carefully hooked all of the crystals back through their loops. The whole thing only took a couple of hours and I think it made a huge difference!

I love the way you painted the chandelier. It looks so feminine now. What a success.

Yikes! Pretty "wild".....(pun intended), but looks fabulous now. I snagged one just like it but it was still brass and had to replace some crystals and a paint job, too. Yours looks very nice especially with the books in the background. Now, it's very you!
