What a week this has been! I am so grateful to each of you who have joined me as I shared my home for Christmas. Today, we are moving into the hearts of our home- the kitchen, to share a little holiday recipe as part of our Farmhouse Holiday Series.
At Christmas time, our kitchen is the place where we gather to make Christmas treats, eat warm dinners, talk and just be together. I love rolling out and decorating Sugar cookies with my babies, and catching my hubby stealing my homemade caramels.
One thing I love to make at this time of year is homemade hot chocolate. It is so much better than the powdered, store-bought stuff and it is pretty easy to make. It refrigerates nicely too, so you can make up a big batch and warm up a cup at a time. You just have to make sure you stir it each time to mix the cocoa that settles at the bottom.
Creamy Homemade Hot Chocolate
Ingredients
- 1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa
- 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1/8 tsp. salt
- 3 cups water can substitute milk if you would like
- 3 cups whole milk
- marshmallows
Instructions
-
In a large saucepan over medium heat, combine sweetened condensed milk, cocoa, salt, and vanilla mixing well with a wire whisk. Slowly stir in milk and water, whisking until well combined. Heat until steaming (not boiling). Top with marshmallows and enjoy!
The tutorial for this village, as well as how to tie these wreaths is coming soon for those who asked.
We always have a bunch of pomegranates in our kitchen as well.

I love the little scenes in the apothecary jats on the table. Real (or fake) gingerbread houses on articfical snow? sugar? salt. They are beyond charming. Do a post on those. Merry Christmas. I love your tree!

I love how you used that wooden board as a serving board for the hot chocolate station-- so simple but makes it feel intentional. Also that big pot of hot chocolate looks like heaven. I love homemade hot cocoa!
