Our baby girl turned 3 last week! She has been trying to convince me almost every day for months that it was her birthday, and it finally came!
I took her on a special mommy, daughter date, and we spent a nice little day together. I am so proud of this Ella girl of mine.
A couple of days before her birthday I started asking her what she wanted and she kept telling me over and over that she wanted a birthday party. Logistically, I didn't think it was possible to get her friends there on such short notice, and I knew that some were already gone or busy.
Knowing my Ella like I do, I knew she would be really excited with any party, even if it was just us. So, on her birthday, during her nap, I decorated for her little party. I wish I would have gotten a picture of her face when she woke up! She was SO excited! We had our little party that night with our family and her grandparents, and the next day with one of her friends.
It was very last minute, so I went super easy and inexpensive:
Paper plates, napkins, bowls, etc. {$1.50 per package at Zurchers}
Pink bulk candy in cheap little 17 cent bags.
Wrapping paper table runner {I use wrapping paper for table runners and backdrops a lot~ I love how it has a big impact for very little cost... and it is disposable!}
I had these straws leftover from the Target $1 section for Valentine's day.
Her favorite were the balloons. A 3 year old can't have a birthday party without balloons!
I used a lot of things I already had on hand:
Ella's little pink antique iron bed,
A Pitcher with fake flower branches, my chalkboard with a quick and simple chalkboard drawing.
and of course a pinwheel.
I am so happy that she felt so special on her day.
Her smile melts me.
I love that every time she walked back into this room over the weekend, she said, "It's my birthday party!"
I feel so very blessed that she has is mine.

Kristen, I've been following your blog for about a year and love seeing your love in these pages. This post proves that the best birthday parties don't have to be in a rented hall, with hired clowns or activities. Simple really is the best. Just look T Ella's smile. As a grandmother of three teens, I speak from knowledge! Blessings to your family.
