Hi friends! I have been busy, busy decorating my home for Christmas. We celebrated our Thanksgiving early this year while we had family in town, so I am going full force into Christmas now! I am excited to share a fun DIY project with you today as part of Home Depot's DIY Workshop Virtual Party- A Holiday Stocking Post!
I decorated the tree up in our family room/playroom with vintage toys and pennants this year and my kids love it! I am still adding and tweaking here and there, but I think it is so fun up in their playroom. I made this stocking hanger to match and I think it looks so cute with it! This is such an easy project, and it is perfect if you don't have a mantel or as an alternative to the traditional mantel.
You can drop into your local Home Depot to make this project-The Home Depot offers Workshops at all of their locations for do-it-yourselfers of all ages and experience levels. There are three types of Workshops offered – Do-It- Yourself (DIY), Do-It-Herself (DIH) and Kids. Customers can learn how to build décor projects, how to make easy home repairs and how to operate tools through demonstrations and step-by-step instructions. Visit HERE to learn more.
I changed mine a little bit by painting it a distressed red with the black showing underneath. I just spray painted the whole thing with black spray paint, rubbed vaseline on the areas that I wanted it to have the distressing and then spray painted it red. Once it was completely dry, I just rubbed off the areas where the vaseline was, and let it dry some more.
I think it is such a fun project and I think it is really simple. You could even have your Home Depot cut the boards for you and then you just have to assemble!
Here is the example they gave which is so easy to customize to your decor:
How would you customize it?

Such a beautiful look! And amazing ribbon again and I love all the vintage toys and signs! So fun! I was so inspired by your stocking hanger, I went to the class at our local Home Depot, and luckily I was the only one to attend...so I got to keep the demo which was awesome! Thanks!

Kristen, can you please tell me about the red and white striped ribbon in this adorable tree? I saw something very similar on a tree in a local antique mall, but the stall owner wasn't there so I wasn't able to find out where she purchased it. I would love to find some! Though I cannot be sure, the ribbon in your tree looks like the same stuff - is it a woven cotton ribbon with something like a blanket stitch on the edges? If so, I would be so grateful if you could provide a source.
The tree is delightful!
