I am finally sharing a few pictures of our new carpet.. along with the progress of my bed linens, new lamps and a hodge podge of furniture! I have been wanting to share for a while, but I have had sick babies so it had to wait.
Our bedroom has been seriously neglected for as long as we have been married. Other things had occupied our time/energy/budget. Lately, I have felt the itch to finally finish this room, and I am loving the progress.
My husband had purchased this bed before we ever met, and although it is a nice, well-built bed, it isn't exactly what I would have picked. I have some fun plans to refinish this bed... so stay tuned! You may be surprised by what I have in store... or maybe you won't. I guess we will see. 🙂
{sorry about the bad pictures, by the way... I was in a hurry:)}
The side tables and lamps are new from Home Goods. I got these little dressers for their size alone. We have been looking for something this size for a very long time for the much needed extra storage. Our bed is a king to give you an idea, so these are larger scale than a simple nightstand. I am going to be painting them... I just haven't decided on a color {suggestions?}. I need to stay on the simple/masculine side to balance out the ruffly bedding.
You can see the new carpet in these pictures!! I love it! I would love to have hardwood in the whole house, but for this house at this stage in our lives, we need comfy carpet in the bedrooms. I will talk more about flooring choices in an upcoming post about the lumber liquidators laminate we will be installing throughout our main living area and kitchen. For now, it is nice having cushy, new carpet.
You aren't seeing things, by the way... there are two different lampshades on those lamps. I have been playing with shades to decide which I want to use. (which lampshade do you like better?)
My hubby also had some dark brown linens on the bed. Now, I LOVE white linens. Love. There is nothing that feels more luxurious to me than crawling into a bed of clean, white linens. I knew I would eventually love to finish our room and have an all-white bed, so about 2 years ago, I began collecting pieces. It is a lot easier on the budget this way, and you can collect what you want instead of feeling confined to whatever style is on the shelves at the time. It also goes back to my decorating philosophy that a home should feel collected instead of decorated. I would rather hold out for what I really want and collect things as I find them, then settle for just whatever I can find at the moment.
Now, I love repurposing and finding good deals, but I did splurge on my bedding. It is mostly Pottery Barn with a few vintage pieces. I guess I like to be eclectic in my approach to decorating.
So here is where I need your advice. I want to get a big fluffy duvet for the bed as well. What do you think? A big rouched one? One with lots of ruffles? A plain and simple linen one?
We will be refinishing/reusing our bed. All of the accessories will be thrifted or come from around the house. The mirror above our bed is a $2 yard sale find from many years ago. There is something funny, but so beautiful, about mixing a $2 mirror with an expensive quilt, don't you think?
I am excited to see where this room goes! I hope what I see in my head actually translates to the room well!
I hope you are having a great week!
P.S. I had a cute little helper while I made my bed. I dare you to try to look at this face without smiling. It is impossible.

Plain and simple linen - can't beat it! This is a shared zone with the hubs and experience has taught me that too much lace and ruffle can be overwhelming from a man's perspective. Mine doesn't even want white in our room! I compensate by having whiter than white walls and introducing pale grey elements to the room together with bright splashes of color in the accessories I choose. The whole feeling has a fun and bright and airy feeling to it. He doesn't complain. Great little helper you have there! cheers, heather x

Your linens are lovely and I really like the idea of collecting them. I prefer the lighter shade with your white linens. The night tables are a great and practical size and are going to look awesome painted. Your little one is adorable -enjoy these times.

I like the dark lamp best, but if you go with a white bed, the white would probably look best. When I was going to college for my Interior Design degree, I remember them telling us that the master bedroom was usually the very last room to ever be done, I think that is true most of the time. We want to get everything else done - especially the children's rooms - before we do ours.
That baby is precious - love those curled up toes and that hair!!

I can totally picture this bed painted white with a distressed look along with mint green distressed looked on the little dressers on each side, then with a more tailored duvet to offset the more feminine look. Maybe a mint pillow on the bed to tie the colors together with one other odd color pillow to be that one spark in the room. Can't wait to see your finished product.

Your little guy is so CUTE!! Oh my gosh! I had to have my kids come look so we could all have a smile to start our day! I love your bedroom. I vote for the ruffles! And the bell shade. Hope you are doing well!

Adorable baby---what a smile! The room looks great; I'd go with a linen duvet cover---you can always reuse the linen if you change in the future. Have you tried larger lampshades? Just a thought...

Such pretty bed linens!!! Our bedding is all white at the moment, too. I'm loving it.
P.S. Cutest baby ever!

Oh Kristen, he is beautiful in every way! I like the lighter shade but I'd wait to see how everything comes together first. Love your carpet too!

Oh my Gosh, Your little helper is so adorable!!! I'm wanting to do a whole makeover in our master, which includes painting the bed and all the other furniture in the room, so I'm excited to see what you do with yours. I love all of your bedding and that mirror, I also like the white lampshades. So Ikea has a simple white devet cover that we got and love, just add is to your bed for extra fluffy-ness and then add your pretty quilt on top. just an idea. 🙂

Oh my gracious, that boy of yours is so precious! Boys are so fabulous 🙂
I smile every time I see your quilt, since I have the same one 🙂 I totally agree, an all-white bed is one of the most fabulous things in the world. I made some ruffled euro shams out of neutral canvas, so mine is totally white, but it's still pretty close.
In the winter I tuck a (wedding present Pottery Barn) down duvet under our quilt, but I don't have a cover for it so it just stays under the quilt. It's their big plain white quilted one, btw. If I was going to choose a cover for it, I think I'd go for a ruched one. That would bring another fun texture to your bed, since you already have the ruffled pillows. So there's my two cents!
