I kept my mantel simple and fairly neutral this year with these whimsical garlands. I loved the way they looked draped together. I made the little book page paper chain garland and I am sharing more about that today. I had the white metal stars on hand from years ago (I found them at the dollar store) and I just hung them from a length of twine. I purchased the little felt ball garland at Tai pan this year, and I hung all of them with a thumb tack on each end, covered by a cute length of red and cream striped ribbon.
I made this just like any other paper chain, using strips of my vintage book pages. You could use cute scrapbook paper, newspaper, or even kraft or wrapping paper. It is such a lovely, easy and inexpensive way to decorate for the holidays.
I used hot glue to adhere the ends of each chain, but if you are making these with the kids a glue stick would work as well.
I just kept going until I had the length I wanted which didn't take long at all.
And finished!
I love how neutral and whimsical it is all at the same time.

What a clever idea It really looks charming. I'm mentally making them for the kids' rooms as I type.

We all Love your ideas. This one particualary! While the plasters and painters have taken over our living, kitchen and dinning rooms, I will be in my craft room in the basement with my Corgi pup making beautiful Book Page paper chains.... Merry Christmas, and many, many blessings.
